Hartwick Huskies Summer Program:
The Hartwick Summer Recreation Program is a four week Summer Recreation Program (July 26th – Aug 20th 2021) for children entering 1st through 6th grades. The program is held daily from 8:15am-12:00pm in the Hamlet of Hartwick with the mission of providing a covid-safe, fun and stimulating experience for the participants to get the most out of their Summer break, and to support local families with their need for healthy child care.
Counselor job Description-
Abilities/Qualifications-
Arrive to work on time each day.
Assist with implementation of the covid-safe operational plan
Express positive and age-appropriate instruction to children ages 5-12
Be willing to quickly shift from one activity to another as needed.
Cheerfully jump in and help children participate in all activities- including encouraging those students who seem shy or unsure of how to complete an activity or join in a group.
Assist with daily operations (projects picked up, names placed on papers, supplies sorted and cleaned up, etc..) without being to ask each time.
Show good communication skills while interacting with the children, networking with the other counselors, and listen to the Director and Assistant Director.
Specific Daily Functions:
Assist the Director and Assistant Director during small-group activities offered throughout the afternoon.
Look at the Daily Organizational Chart before the afternoon begins to understand what activities you are assisting with.
Safely supervise small groups of children while participating in arts and crafts activities, playground activities, sports activities, and other planned recreation activities.
Assist children by modeling appropriate behavior, encouraging the use of manners (please, thank-you, taking turns, not interrupting), and being inclusive.
Assist children by helping them join into a group, take appropriate turns, wait their turn, learn to apologize when necessary, learn to ask for assistance, and other skills necessary for successful participation in group interactions.
Report discipline problems to the Director or Assistant Director, and ask for help when not sure how to handle a situation.
Give children individual understanding (see what that individual child needs). Use positive words of encouragement such as, "You did a great job with that.", "It was really nice when you helped your friend.", "Thank you for picking up your things.", "I like how you listen to all the directions.", etc....
